  1. STREETS AND ALLEYS V2.65
  2.  
  3. VERSIONS:  Versions before V2.63 were not released.  They did
  4. not even resemble the current version.  V2.65 has improved card
  5. graphics over V2.63.
  6.  
  7. BACKGROUND:  Streets and Alleys is one solitaire game that is
  8. not included in any of the commercial packages.  I like the
  9. game, so I decided to write a computer simulation of it.
  10.  
  11. INSTRUCTIONS:  Just double click on the Streets&Alleys icon, the
  12. game will display a brief greeting while it is reading data.
  13. Then, the screen will appear, and the cards will be dealt.  If
  14. you didn't get a chance to read the entire greeting, it can be
  15. recalled under the V2.65 menu.  Rules and Strategy for the game
  16. are also found under the V2.65 menu.

  18. To play the game, click on a card, it will be displayed in
  19. reverse video, then click on a destination pile, and the card
  20. will be moved (unless you've attempted an illegal move). 
  21. Clicking twice on the same card will deselect it.  You can
  22. bypass the computer's move restrictions by selecting the 'Allow
  23. All Moves' option in the menu (i.e. cheating).  The other menu
  24. selections are pretty self-explanatory.

  26. SCORING:  I dreamed up the scoring criteria mainly so a player
  27. could see how many moves he's made.  If you select the 'Show
  28. Score Card' option, the score card will be displayed every time
  29. you start a game.  You can also read the score card anytime by 
  30. selecting 'Score' from the V2.65 menu.

  32. WINDOWS:  Any help window will close when the left mouse button
  33. is clicked.

  35. PROGRAM LOCKS UP?:
  36. This is generally not a problem since I removed the Clock (V2.64).
  37. Some screenblanker programs like QMOUSE may cause the game to
  38. freeze.  Just disable your screenblanker while playing S&A if
  39. you have problems.  Also, avoid double-clicking the right
  40. mouse button.
